BACK TO BUNGALOW

11. This photograph captures the very intimate and private courtyard which ties all the public spaces together as well as the master suite balcony upstairs. This indoor/outdoor living experience is very unique to Hawaii due to its year round mild climate and gentle tradewinds. The ‘U’ shaped courtyard opens to the Northeast allowing for the prevailing tradewinds to flow into the courtyard and throughout the house providing yet another means of passive cooling. The travertine flooring extends from the indoors to the outdoors creating an ambiguous line between and furthering this lovely experience of an island tropical lifestyle. This photograph truly captures the amazing morning light that is caste into the courtyard. With many openings onto the courtyard, this morning light is well dispersed into the interior living spaces, bringing to life a new day. Secluded from Kahala Avenue, this peaceful, tranquil space provides a great opportunity to relax, have a cup of coffee and read the morning paper.
